AV-30 Video Bar System
Context
A video bar combines acoustics, optics, architecture, and brand, and it needs to fit naturally within all of these areas. In 2022, I worked solo on this project for Avaya, handling the entire design process from initial concepts to final design, covering both industrial design and CMF. The main challenge was ensuring the device blended seamlessly with Avaya's existing product line while still standing out confidently in a boardroom setting.
The most important design choices were also the least obvious. Sharing a sustainability commitment with the client meant avoiding paint, glue, and snap-fits. This deliberate choice rejected common shortcuts and added real complexity across all areas. Fitting two speaker chambers inside a single 30cm plastic shell without splitting the casing pushed injection moulding to its limits. The mounting system had to work for both wall and desk setups without affecting the design. None of these challenges could be solved alone. As the sole designer, I connected the product, project, and engineering teams to ensure every constraint was understood and addressed together. The product reached the final design stage through a thorough process that showed how early constraints rarely limit good design. Instead, they often shape it.
